Are you a stay-at-home mom looking to make money fast?
I’ve never gotten to experience the life of a stay-at-home but I am a single mom who works from home!
Each situation comes with its own challenges but there are stay-at-home jobs for moms everywhere that can result in either some extra money or a full-time income.
And long gone are the days when moms had to resort to Avon or Mary Kay to make some extra income.
With the online world becoming critical when it comes to selling products and running businesses, there is ample opportunity for moms to work from home while taking care of their kiddos.
Don’t know where to start? Here are 20 stay-at-home mom job ideas to get you started:
1. Start a Blog
Blogging is perhaps one of the most popular stay-at-home jobs for moms nowadays! But success doesn’t come quickly – making a decent income from a blog takes time but can earn you anywhere between $1,000 to $50,000 per month.
However, setting one is simple and the earning potential is limitless. Plus running one is super flexible and can be done in your spare time.
Starting a blog does involve more than simply picking a free WordPress theme and throwing out some content. If you’re interested in starting a blog, consider the following:
- Your Niche: This is the topic that your blog will focus on based on what you are knowledgeable in and passionate about. It ensures that you draw in a targeted audience, making it easier to sell them stuff and develop a loyal following.
- Your Brand: Recognizability plays a huge factor in getting lots of people to visit your blog. Think about the attitude you want your blog to portray (fun, serious, silly, etc.) and choose layouts, colors, and fonts that reflect this.
- Your Content: All bloggers are Google’s bitch when it comes to gaining traffic. In order to get Google’s attention, make sure your content is long (1,500-2,000 words), well-written, and links to reputable sources. Also, post often to stay relevant on the search engine.
Once you have these things in place, and your blog set up, you can start using monetizing methods such as ad placement and affiliate sales to make money fast.
After you get a feel for what kind of content is popular on your site, you can also design courses or write eBooks – both of which are amazing ways of earning a passive income.
Here are some posts I’ve written to get you started:
Can you tell I’m a bit passionate about blogging? I’m equally passionate about freelancing as well! This is because freelancing is one of my work-from-home jobs that earns me a full-time income.
By day I am a freelance writer and by night…I’m sometimes also a freelance writer because I need to get caught up on client projects.
Freelancing is an amazing stay-at-home job that allows you to choose who you work for and how much work you want to take on – hence the term, freelancing. You can scour freelancing job boards looking for one-time jobbies to put a little extra cash in your pocket.
And, sometimes, these quickies turn into full-blown work (which is exactly how I managed to find myself working full-time for four different clients).
Freelancing is not just limited to writing! You can be a freelancer in a variety of fields and specialties:
- Graphic design
- Logo design
- Voice acting
- App development
- Financial advisor
- Fitness advisor
- Video production
- Data entry
3. Web Design
If you’re handy with code, or know your way around Divi, you could offer your services as a web designer setting up websites for businesses.
Web design is a great way to combine multiple services into a package deal – you could offer graphic design services and writing services to ensure that the client’s site is unique to their brand and personality.
To get started, reach out to local businesses and offer your web design services. Once you start building a portfolio, you can expand your reach and up your prices.
If you’re not ready to jump into the world of writing, but have strong grammatical and spelling skills, you could be an editor or proofreader and work from home!
Sometimes sites will write their own content or open it up to contributors, but they don’t have time to fix up the content before posting it. Often, they will hire proofreaders to look over the articles and make any necessary changes.
Editing, on the other hand, involves a more in-depth look at the content, making not only changes to spelling and grammar but also rewriting pieces to ensure clarity and flow.
Proofreading and editing are great stay-at-home jobs with no experience and there are many places that beginners can go to look for jobs:
5. Selling on Fiverr
Going back to my work as a freelance writer, I actually started on Fiverr! Fiverr is a neat little site that allows you to sell services for as low as $5 (but you can charge more depending on what you are offering).
I used to sell cheapo parenting articles and it was enough to put a few extra bucks in my pocket. However, over time, I actually landed pretty big clients from these one-off gigs.
Fiverr is not limited to freelance writing – you can sell anything! I remember when Fiverr first became popular there was this English dude who, for $5, would dress up as Santa and make a video yelling and going on about one of your friends.
I never bought it but I was so tempted.
Take a look at their site to get an idea of what you can sell. It’s definitely a way to make money fast as a stay-at-home mom.
6. Selling on Amazon (FBA)
Amazon’s FBA program (Fulfillment by Amazon) is a service offered by Amazon that allows third-party sellers to automate their order fulfillment and shipping services. You sell a product, Amazon ships it.
Amazon handles all of the shipping, including returns and refunds. All you do is send your product to Amazon, who stores it in their warehouse and processes the order as it comes in.
If you’re good at finding deals, buying and reselling items on Amazon can be a great opportunity that is flexible and be done at home!
It’s a great stay-at-home job with no experience – and you don’t need to invest a whole lot to get started.
Check out this guide from Mint Notion for more information.
Dropshipping is a way of making money from home where you sell third-party products without ever touching or physically shopping the item yourself. When you make a sale, the product is directly shipped to the customer from the drop shipper.
The money you make comes from the difference between what you charge your customers and what the drop shipping company charges you.
This is a great way to sell products without actually having to make them and without relying on an affiliate program.
For instance, you can choose a product from a drop shipper to sell on eBay, like a mom schedule journal that cost you $2, and markup the price to $15. When it’s sold, you send the buyer’s information to the drop shipping (including the $2) and you keep the remaining $13. The dropper ships it directly to your customers and you repeat the process.
Here’s a list of some drop shippers you should definitely check out.
Companies will pay people to listen to audio files and type what they hear – this is known as transcribing. So if you have patience and an eye for detail, this could be a great part-time stay-at-home job.
Although you need a good chunk of time to do this, as well as a quiet space, this job can really work well for moms because you can work around your own schedule and stay at home.
If you are proficient in a second language, you could make money online by offering translation services. Many companies around the world are looking for individuals who can take their articles, instructions, video presentations, etc., and translate them into another language.
10. Teaching English Online
Teaching English to children in China has become a huge online source of income. And the best part? Because of the time difference, you can work while your kiddos are asleep!
Most online companies will require that you have at least a bachelor’s degree but having teaching experience helps as well. Otherwise, you just need a computer and webcam to get started.
Thanks to advances in technology and more ways to communicate online, you can make money fast at home by offering your services as an online tutor. All you need is the know-how in a particular subject and you can help support students from all around the world!
Apart from English, you can tutor students in math, science, history – anything you can think of. And your skills are not just limited to students. You can teach adults as well.
12. Life Coaching
A couple of years ago I took an amazing life coaching course through the Udemy that was created by the School of Achology (The Academy of Modern Applied Psychology). The course is super affordable and insightful.
So if you’re interested in helping other people with their personal development while making some good coin, I would suggest you look into being an online life coach.
While I never pursued this as a stay-at-home job, it has certainly helped me provide valuable support through the content on my mom blog, Motherhood+Mayhem.
13. Virtual Assistant
One of my work-from-home jobs is being a virtual assistant. This doesn’t entail much for me – usually I just moderate posts and comments in mom groups as well as edit contributed articles – but if you focus on it you can definitely earning some good money working for other bloggers.
Some of the tasks involved in being a virtual assistant include writing, proofreading, social media management, email management, event planning, bookkeeping, and more.
So you can see how being a virtual assistant incorporates many different online jobs, making it easy to offer your services as a full-meal deal. Plus, this job is very flexible and successful bloggers are all about finding ways to save time!
14. Selling Printables
If you’re creative and handy with programs like Canva, you can sell printables on sites like Etsy to make some fast money as a stay-at-home mom!
The possibilities are endless, too. You can see from the screenshot above (where I simply searched “printables”) ideas such as productivity planners, bridal shower games, AirBnB host bundles, and even wall decor.
And, this is an amazing form of passive income – meaning that you only have to create the product once and you can sell it over and over.
Before you get started, think about what you want to create and what problem you want that product to solve. By niching down, you can focus more directly on a particular audience and enjoy more sales.
15. Selling Crafts
My mom-blog friend Elna has this amazing post over on her site Twins Mommy that gives you 87 craft ideas you can make and sell from home as a stay-at-home mom.
Whatever craft you choose to make and sell, you can use Facebook groups, buy/trade/sell groups, Etsy, or even your blog to bring in business.
You will need to invest some funds into materials and tools but making crafts to sell allows you flexibility while earning an income. You can plug away at your crafts while your kiddo is napping or at night in front of the TV!
16. Selling Photography
Do you love taking pictures? Do you have a good-quality camera? You can easily sell your photography to real estate agents, stock photo sites, and magazines!
You can also make some money by offering your services for weddings, birthdays, portraits, etc. This type of online job will take you out of your home, but you can create a schedule that is super flexible with your lifestyle.
17. Paid Online Surveys
I know the point of this post is to show you ways you can make money fast from home but all the big money-makers are going to take some time to get going.
Just by answering a few questions, you can earn points toward gift cards as well as money into your PayPal account. The more survey sites you sign up for, the more you’ll earn!
18. Customer Service
After COVID hit and shut down everything, I was amazed at how many of my friends were able to move their customer service jobs to their homes! Now companies are seeing the value in hiring at-home employees and the possibilities are continuing to grow.
I’ll be honest, this is a job better suited for moms who have kids in school or extra help at home. You do have to spend good chunks of your time at the computer but many companies offer parttime stay-at-home jobs in the customer service sector.
Look for remote customer service jobs and, remember, the companies you apply for don’t even have to be based in your area!
19. In-Home Daycare
If you have little ones at home and can’t seem to find the time to focus on a side gig, you can always offer daycare services in your home. That way, you can entertain your kiddos, and other peoples’ kiddos, while making some fast money.
Just be mindful that starting a daycare business is not as straightforward as putting the word out for clients. You have to ensure that your home is properly set up to accommodate children and find out from your local municipality how many children you can have in your daycare.
In order to be considered a true daycare, you will also have to license your home as one – which is helpful in getting clients since some parents can benefit from daycare subsidies but they only apply to licensed daycare.
20. In-Home Services
If you’re a trained aesthetician, or are interested in becoming one, you can offer nail, hair, and spa-type services in your home. Instead of getting up and going to work everyday, your clients will come to you!
In order to do so, you will have to get independent professional liability insurance to cover the services you perform in case something goes wrong and you accidentally injure a client.
You’ll also have to consider getting your own equipment and setting up payment methods. It seems like a lot of work but, once you get started, it’s an easy way to make money at home!
Make It Rain, Mamas!
Whether you’re a single mom, stay-at-home mom, or simply want to earn some extra money, there is no end to the possibilities when it comes to jobs you can do from the comfort of your home!
All it takes is some passion and patience and, while the latter tends to run in short supply for moms, you know you have the ability to conjure it up from somewhere.
